Serbia sets opening price for Zelezara Smederevo tender

Monday, 07 March 2016 15:36:26 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Serbian government has launched a new tender for its only steel mill Zelezara Smederevo and set the starting price at €45.7 million. The deadline for binding offers is March 30.

The market price of the steel mill is €91.4 million and the starting price indicates the 50 percent of the appraised value of the property. The tender includes the sale of the real estate, land and buildings, movable property, stocks, shares in capital and intangible assets.

In 2012, the Serbian government bought the Smederevo steel mill for $1 from US Steel to save more than 5,000 jobs. The government was negotiating with the Chinese Hebei Iron and Steel Group Co. (Hebei Steel Group) late last year, however it did not say if the Chinese company is still a potential buyer.
