The Russian steel producer Severstal has started the installation of its new electric-welded tube plant 127-426, supplied by German plantmaker SMS Meer, at its new pipe mill Sheksna Pipe Works, which is located in the Sheksna industrial zone in the Vologodsk region.
Accordingly, the new electric-welded tube plant will allow Sheksna Pipe Works to produce pipes with diameters in a range of 127-426 mm, of 6-16 m length and of 3-16 mm wall thickness, in compliance with EN 10219, GOST 30245-2003, GOST 25577-83, GOST 8639-82 and GOST 8645-68 standards. Moreover, the plant will also be able to produce square sections with a range of dimensions from 90 х 90 cm to 320 х 320 cm, and rectangular sections in a range of 100 х 80 cm to 350 х 250 cm.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, Severstal's Sheksna Pipe Works is scheduled to start operations in December 2009, and to reach its designed capacity of 250,000-300,000 metric tons of fabricated sections a year in the second half of 2010. The total investment cost in the mill's construction is expected to exceed $100 million.
