The Russian steel producer Severstal has announced that since the beginning of the current year it has considerably expanded its product range, including products with exclusive properties, for key and potential clients in strategically important branches of the economy.
Accordingly, during the first five months of 2009, Severstal's main steel producing facility Severstal Cherepovets mastered the production of nine new types of products, mainly for different segments of machine building and car industry. The mill's deliveries of new steel product types in January-May 2009 amounted to 330,000 mt, exceeding the volume of new product types delivered in the first half of 2008.
Meanwhile, during the period in question, Severstal's pipe producing subsidiary Izhora Pipe Plant (Izhora) mastered the production of 12 new types of pipes of 11 mm to 20 mm wall thickness and of 1,020 mm to 1,220 mm diameter, produced from Severstal Cherepovets' strip. The new pipes are designed for trunk pipeline projects of federal significance, which impose high requirements on quality and strength characteristics of finished products. For the construction of the Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2) alone, Izhora produced more than 4,000 mt of pipes of five new types, with wall thickness from 13 mm to 20 mm and of K-56 and K-60 grade. The first batch of pipes for BPS-2 was delivered to the Russian state-owned oil transportation company Transneft in May. Izhora's total deliveries for the project in question will amount to more than 57,000 mt of pipes.
