Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that it is reconstructing its coke oven battery No. 7 at its Cherepovets (CherMK) plant with more than RUB 600 million ($7.07 million) investment.
An additional gas collector, gas exhaust risers, pipelines for ammonia water, steam, nitrogen and air will be installed. With the reconstruction, the company will be able to reuse coke oven gas in production.
“The event will improve the efficiency of removal of coke oven gas from coking chambers and reduce the volume of unorganized emissions of coke oven gas into the atmosphere. Raw coke oven gas will be evacuated to extract useful products, and then returned to the production cycle to heat the battery,” Evgeny Vinogradov, general director of the Severstal Russian Steel Division, said. The company stated that the reconstruction of the coke oven battery No. 7 is part of the 2024 environmental investment program.
