The Russian steel producer Severstal has announced that in 2010 its total production of crude steel was 17.04 million mt, 14 percent higher than in 2009, while its total hot metal output amounted to about 12.57 million mt, 18 percent higher year on year.
Severstal's total sales of iron ore in 2010 were 23 percent lower year on year, while its coal sales were up by 47 percent, rising to 3.56 million mt and about 7.68 million mt respectively.
Meanwhile, Severstal's consolidated sales of rolled steel products in 2010 amounted to 13.345 million mt - up 13 percent, its sales of semi-finished products came to 1.3 million mt - up 51 percent, and its sales of downstream products totaled 1.86 million mt - up 14 percent, all compared to 2009.
Specifically, in 2010, Severstal Russian Steel produced 11.085 million mt of crude steel - up 16 percent year on year, and 8.69 million mt of hot metal, up 20 percent year on year. Severstal Russian Steel's 2010 sales of rolled steel products increased by 14 percent year on year to 7.66 million mt, while its sales of semi-finished steel products went up by 67 percent to 1.4 million mt compared to 2009.
Severstal's production of hot metal in North America was about 3.88 million mt in 2010, which reflects a 12 percent increase year on year, while its crude steel output in North America was reported at 5.955 million mt - up nine percent compared to 2009. In addition, Severstal's North American operations also reported an 11 percent increase in its sales of rolled steel products to 5.7 million mt, but an eight percent decrease in its downstream product (metalware) sales to 114,077 mt.
