Shougang Jingtang to begin trial production on May 20

Chinese steelmaker Shougang Jingtang is expected to carry out trial production on May 20 for Phase I of its new steel plant project based in Tangshan Caofeidian Industrial Zone in the northeastern Chinese province of Hebei.

Construction work on the Shougang Jingtang Steel Plant project started on March 12, 2007, targeting an overall designed annual capacity of 8.98 million mt of pig iron, 9.7 million of crude steel, and 9.13 million mt of finished steel. Phase I of the project, with an annual capacity of 4.85 million mt, is scheduled to be officially put into production in 2010.
