Beijing-based Chinese steelmaker Shougang Group has announced that it has won a tender for the supply of 465,000 mt of pipeline steel for the third pipeline (Huorguosi, Xinjiang-Fuzhou, Fujian) with the scope of China's west-east natural gas transmission project. The pipeline steel from Shougang Group will include 380,000 mt of hot rolled coil (HRC) and 85,000 mt of plate. The third pipeline is being built by PetroChina, the listed arm of state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
Shougang Group has three main production bases for pipeline steel, namely, Qiansteel, Jingtang and Shouqin, all located in Hebei Province. Their products are not only supplied to Chinese domestic customers, such as Shanxi-based Baoji Steel Pipe Co., Hebei-based North China Petroleum Steel Pipe Co. and Guangdong-based Panyu Chu Kong Steel Pipe Co, but have also been exported to overseas destinations such as Greece, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
