Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that South Korean steelmaker Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO) has placed an order for modernization of a wire rod and bar-in-coil mill in order to expand its product range further in terms of both grades and sizes.

The plant currently has 540,000 mt of annual wire rod and bar-in-coils production capacity for the automotive sector in a diameter range of 14-42 mm.

POSCO expects the modenization project to provide a quality improvement on the rolled surface of the bars and a better coil shape and formation through a scratch-free conveying system. The steelmaker aims to better supply the automotive and special steels market with these implementations.
