Steel exports from US drop 0.5 percent in March

According to US export data, monthly steel exports in March decreased 0.5 percent from February to total 703,314 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 13.5 percent decline. Exports to Mexico fell 2.0 percent from the preceding month to 262,670 mt, but this was 19.9 percent less than March 2015. Exports to Canada increased by 2.1 percent month-on-month to 363,696 mt, which is 5.3 percent less than a year earlier.

Other major destinations for US steel exports in March include: India, at 6,157 mt; China, at 5,148 mt; Belgium, at 4,647 mt; Trinidad and Tobago, at 3,855 mt; and Panama, at 3,618 mt.

Major products exported in March include HDG, at 106,568 mt; cut-length plates, at 94,535 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 51,934 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 48,683 mt; and heavy structural shapes, at 38,136 mt.
