Switzerland-based Stahl Gerlafingen, a part of Italian merchant bar producer Beltrame Group, has announced that it has inked a contract with ADEV, an energy cooperative in Switzerland, for the installation of a solar power plant.

As part of the contract, ADEV will build a solar power plant with a capacity of two megawatts that will be comprised of about 4,500 modules to be installed on the roof of the rolling mill.

Construction of the plant in question will begin early next year and is expected to be completed by April 2024. The plant will provide 2 million kWh of environmentally-friendly electricity per year.

Stahl Gerlafingen has a reinforcing steel and section production capacity of about 700,000 mt per year. The company, which uses scrap as the main raw material, is the largest recycling plant in the country.
