Taiwan’s scrap imports down 9.1 percent in January-June

Taiwan’s total imports of ferrous scrap decreased by 9.1 percent year on year to 1,600,803 mt in the January-June period of this year, according to the official customs statistics.

In the first six months of the year, the US was the main supplier of scrap to Taiwan, exporting 656,514 mt to this destination in the given period, up by 2.5 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, scrap exports from Japan to Taiwan totaled 382,338 mt in the given period, down 20.5 percent year on year.

In June alone, Taiwan’s scrap imports amounted to 261,749 mt, down by 11.6 percent year on year and by 10.5 percent month on month.
