Tata Steel’s sales up 18 percent in May

One of the India's major steelmakers, Tata Steel has released its production results for May 2009. According to the results, Tata Steel has completed the month of May with a significant increase in its liquid pig iron, crude steel and saleable steel production, compared to the corresponding month of 2008.

In May this year, Tata Steel's crude steel production amounted 486,000 metric tons, increasing by 17 percent, while its liquid pig iron production totaled 528,000 metric tons, up 19 percent, both compared to May 2008. Meanwhile, the producer's saleable steel production in the period in question rose by 23 percent year on year to 501,000 metric tons and its sales increased by 18 percent to 469,000 metric tons.

In May 2009, Tata Steel's long product sales increased by 34 percent and it flat product sales by nine percent, compared to the same period of last year.
