In August this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 22 percent to 905,700 mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 7.1 percent to $850.2 million, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of August, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 2.1 percent to 243,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 31.1 percent to 508,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In August, total long steel product imports were down by 22 percent to 85,000 mt, year on year.
In August, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 153 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 110 percent in the same month of 2017.
In the first eight months of this year, the country’s steel imports increased by 3.6 percent to 10.7 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 21 percent to $9.2 billion, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-August period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 21.1 percent to 3.6 million mt, while its flat steel imports declined by five percent to 5.5 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 979,000 mt, rising by 4.2 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 118 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 114 percent in the same period of 2017.
