Tenova, an Italy-based company specialized in technological solutions for the steel and mining industries, will supply the equipment for the new state-of-the-art steelworks to sister company, steelmaker Ternium in Mexico, both companies controlled by the Techint Group.

The equipment that Tenova will sell includes a direct reduction (DR) plant, an electric arc furnace (EAF), two ladle furnaces (LF), and a smoke treatment plant that guarantees a total production capacity of 2.6 million metric tons (mt) of high-quality steel for the automotive industry.

“(Ternium) new state-of-the-art steel mill in Pesquería, Mexico will become the most modern facility on the continent,” Tenova reported in a press release.

The technology for the new steel mill is Tenova's own and some parts arise from agreements with the Italian Danieli and the Swedish-Swiss multinational ABB.

Last June, Ternium reported the construction of a new $3.2 billion steel mill that will come into operation in 2026.

According to Tenova, Ternium's most recent investments in Mexico total $2.2 billion. For the new steel mill, the technology will be available to achieve the company's decarbonization commitment by 2030.
