Turkey’s April iron and steel exports down by 40.73 percent

Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) chairman Mehmet Buyukeksi has announced that Turkey's exports fell by 33.75 percent in April.

According to the TIM statement, the country's exports in April decreased by 33.75 percent year on year to $7.53 billion. Meanwhile, in the first four months of 2009 Turkey's exports totaled $28.5 billion, down 33.21 percent year on year, while the country's exports for the past twelve months amounted to $113.35 billion, down 3.31 percent compared to the previous twelve months.

In April Turkish iron and steel exports decreased by 40.73 percent to $958 million, compared to $1,657 billion in the same month of 2008. In addition, Turkey's iron and steel exports in the first four months of 2009 fell by 27.79 percent year on year to $3,831 billion, while the country's exports for the past twelve months were up by 34.31 percent to $17,924 billion, compared to the year-ago period.
