Turkey’s billet imports up 20.2 percent in Q1

In March this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 37.6 percent year on year to 576,075 mt, up 14 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $162.6 million, down 8.6 percent year on year and rising by 14.3 percent compared to the previous month.

In the January-March period this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 20.2 percent year on year to 1.4 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $399.4 million, down 21.3 percent year on year.

In the first quarter of this year, Turkey imported 481,082 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, up 10.96 percent year on year, with Russia ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of China which supplied 411,373 mt in the given period.
