Turkey’s İDÇ begins production at new melting shop

Friday, 07 June 2024 11:25:35 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Turkish rebar producer Izmir Demir Çelik Sanayi (IDC) has commissioned its new melting shop and has begun production, following the completion of the hot testing procedure. Accordingly, the company will continue to carry out the performance tests at the melting shop.

With the new facility coming online, the total production capacity of İDÇ has increased to 3.1 million mt per year from 1.5 million mt per year. Equipped with modern technologies, the melting shop will allow the company to produce higher quality products and to reduce its production costs by optimizing its production process and by providing energy efficiency. Also, İDÇ will be able to increase its billet output and this will end its dependence on imports for semi-finished products. By increasing billet sales in accordance with its higher output, the company will respond to demand more quickly and effectively.

In the meantime, the melting shop will contribute to İDÇ’s decarbonization goals by reducing its carbon footprint and energy consumption.

The decrease in production costs and increased semi-finished steel sales are expected to have a positive effect on the company’s annual revenues and to strengthen its financial performance along with its competitiveness.
