In April this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 781,227 metric tons, down 24.9 percent month on month and falling by 23.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports decreased by 26.5 percent to $47.9 million compared to the previous month and was down 45.4 percent year on year.
In the first four months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports remained almost unchanged at 3.53 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 35 percent to $216.8 million, both year on year.
In the January-April period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1,815,986 mt, up 3.73 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 610,611 metric tons, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 501,734 metric tons in the given month.
