In February this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.1 million metric tons, up 83.5 percent month on month and rising by 27 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 80.3 percent to $66.7 million compared to the previous month and was down 16.01 percent year on year.
In the first two months this year, Turkey's iron ore imports remained almost unchanged at 1.7 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 38 percent to $103.7 million, both year on year.
In the January-February period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 962,686 mt, down 9.29 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 324,748 metric tons, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 172,290 metric tons in the given month.
