In May this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 967,650 metric tons, up 23.9 percent month on month and rising by 137.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 33.4 percent to $63.9 million compared to the previous month and was up 85.6 percent year on year.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 13.7 percent to 4.5 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 23.8 percent to $280.7 million, both year on year.
In the January-May period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 2,342,843 mt, up 33.83 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 826,223 metric tons, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 666,686 metric tons.
