In December last year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 746,683 metric tons, falling 33 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to $50.8 million, down 58.5 percent year on year.
In 2015, Turkey imported 10 million mt of iron ore, up 17 percent compared to the previous year, while the value of these imports decreased by 25 percent year on year to $800.5 million.
In 2015, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 4.84 million mt, up 34.22 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 1,541,426 metric tons, down 11.06 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 1,487,316 metric tons, up 0.21 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
