In March this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.04 million metric tons, down 5.45 percent month on month and rising by 25.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports decreased by 2.33 percent to $65.14 million compared to the previous month and was down 17.2 percent year on year.
In the first quarter of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by nine percent to 2.75 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 31.5 percent to $168.8 million, both year on year.
In the January-March period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1,478,586 mt, down 0.78 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 473,361 metric tons, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 336,909 metric tons in the given month.
