In May this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 118,710 mt, rising by 30.6 percent compared to April and up 20 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month increased by 36.3 percent month on month to $29.3 million, down 8.7 percent compared to May 2015.
Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 22.8 percent to 515,432 mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 21.5 percent to $115.5 million, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-May period this year, Turkey imported 284,616 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 102.46 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 207,508 mt, down 18.9 percent year on year.
