In March this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 129,956 mt, rising by 25.3 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $27.3 million, down 22.6 percent compared to March 2015.
Meanwhile, in the first quarter of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 38.9 percent to 305,842 mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 21 percent to $64.7 million, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-March period this year, Turkey imported 191,741 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 190.21 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 103,355 mt, down 27.53 percent year on year.
