In December last year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 34.8 percent year on year to 1.74 million metric tons, up 34 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $336.17 million, down 22.6 percent year on year and rising by 18.6 percent compared to November.
In 2015, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 16.25 million mt, falling 15 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 40 percent to $4.3 billion, both compared to 2014.
Last year, Turkey imported 3,839,314 mt of scrap from the US, down 3.78 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 2,455,428 mt in the given period, up 15.52 percent year on year.
