In March this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 6.56 percent year on year and was down 8.58 percent month on month to 1.32 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $406.83 million, down 23.75 percent year on year and decreasing by 10.93 percent compared to the previous month.
In the first quarter of this year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 4.14 million mt, falling 5.72 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 23.57 percent to $1.30 billion, both compared to the first quarter of 2014.
In the January-March period this year, Turkey imported 772,979 mt of scrap from the US, down 13.58 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's main scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 703,828 mt in the given period, up 13.78 percent year on year.
