In March this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 40.3 percent year on year to 1.85 million metric tons, up 61.3 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $366.65 million, down 9.9 percent year on year and rising by 62.8 percent compared to February.
In the January-March period of this year, Turkey's scrap imports remained unchanged at 4.15 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 37.3 percent to $816.4 million, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first quarter, Turkey imported 885,903 mt of scrap from the US, up 14.61 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 769,152 mt in the given period, up 27.5 percent year on year.
