Turkey’s scrap imports up 18.05 percent in January-November

In November last year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 1.42 percent year on year to 1.87 million metric tons and was down 12.71 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $629.8 million, up 47.03 percent year on year and down 11.41 percent compared to October.

In the first 11 months of last year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 18.95 million mt, rising by 18.05 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 53.82 percent to $5.49 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 3,307,058 mt of scrap from the US, up 6.76 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 2,764,118 mt in the given period, up 21.86 percent year on year.
