In April this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 17.8 percent year on year to 1.37 million metric tons, down 25.5 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $265.7 million, down 12 percent year on year and falling by 27.5 percent compared to March.
In the January-April period of this year, Turkey's scrap imports increased by four percent to 5.53 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 32.6 percent to $1.08 billion, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first four months, Turkey imported 1,133,369 mt of scrap from the US, up 3.81 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 906,710 mt in the given period, up 11.7 percent year on year.
