In November last year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 274,660 mt, almost double month on month (up 96.09 percent) and increasing by 66.25 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $143.82 million, up 105 percent month on month and increasing by 69.62 percent compared to November 2012. According to the data for November last year, the average price for Turkish slab imports was $523.62 /mt, rising two percent from the average of $513.22 /mt recorded in the same month of 2012.
In the first 11 months of 2013, Turkey's slab imports totaled 2.01 million mt, surging strongly by 170.189 percent, with a value of $1.02 billion, up 150.40 percent, both year on year.
Meanwhile, in the same period Turkey imported 763,292 metric tons of slab from Russia, increasing by almost six times, 654,038 metric tons of slab from the UK, increasing threefold, and 306,426 metric tons of slab from Ukraine, up 70.96 percent, all year on year.
