Turkey’s slab imports up 36.4 percent in January-February

In February this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 325,230 mt, rising by 18 percent year on year and up 134 percent compared to January, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $81 million, down 32.6 percent compared to February 2015 and rising by 135 percent month on month.

During the first two months of the current year, Turkey's slab imports increased by 36.4 percent to 464,187 mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 22 percent $115.45 million, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 211,145 metric tons of slab from Brazil. Brazil was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Russia, which supplied 120,152 mt in the given period.
