According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in August this year Turkey's stainless flat steel imports fell by 23.8 percent compared to the previous month and were down 19.8 percent compared to August 2011, amounting to 24,529 metric tons. The value of these imports was $62.8 million, decreasing by 22 percent as compared to July this year and down 34.5 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 245,926 metric tons, increasing 7.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first eight months of the year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 56,908 metric tons, increasing by 9.3 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in June this year was South Korea with 32,940 metric tons, down 10 percent compared to the same period of 2011. Meanwhile, Germany exported 30,842 mt of stainless flat steel to Turkey in the January-August period of the year, rising by 32 percent on year-on-year basis.
