Turkey's steel import value down 22.9 percent in January-May

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in May this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 19.3 percent year on year, totaling $1.13 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in fifth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the January-May period, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $5.07 billion, decreasing by 22.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In May, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 14th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $233.6 million, increasing by 15.4 percent year on year. In the first five months of this year, Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel were up 25.9 percent to $1.3 billion compared to the same period of 2015.
