Turkey’s steel import volume up 1.7 percent in January-August

According to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in August this year Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 16.3 percent to 1.44 million mt, with a value of $948.5 million, down 5.7 percent, both year on year. 
 
In the given month, Turkey’s semi-finished imports decreased by 39.2 percent to 494,000 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports fell by 0.1 percent to 712,000 mt, both compared to the same month last year. 
 
In the January-August period of this year, Turkey's steel imports increased by 1.7 percent year on year to 12.7 million mt. 
 
In January-August period of this year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 93 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 98 percent in the same period last year.
 
In the first eight months of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 10.6 percent to 4.6 million mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports continued to increase with a 8.9 percent rise to 6.10 million mt, both compared to the same period last year.
