According to the statistics provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in July Turkey's total steel product exports amounted to 1.658 million metric tons, decreasing by 9.56 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $944 million, decreasing by 57.62 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
Meanwhile, in the January-July period of the current year total steel product exports of Turkish mills slid 8.96 percent year on year to 11.204 million metric tons, totaling a value of $6.442 billion, which is 45.24 percent lower than the corresponding period of 2008.
In July, Turkey's steel product exports to the Middle East, its largest market for steel exports, amounted to 845,100 metric tons, decreasing by 19.47 percent year on year, totaling a value of $414.45 million. Turkey's second largest export market for steel products during the month in question was North Africa, which accounted for 291,300 metric tons, up 68.64 percent year on year. Europe came next with 226,700 metric tons, down 46.27 percent year on year.
In the month in question, Turkish steel product exports to Asia and Oceania totaled 124,000 metric tons, up 258 percent; exports to Africa reached 78,300 metric tons, up 137 percent; exports to the Americas amounted to 50,000 metric tons, down 18.52 percent; and finally exports to CIS countries totaled 35,170 metric tons, down 32.24 percent - all compared to July 2008.
