Turkey’s scrap imports up 5.5 percent in January-October

In October this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 1.9 percent year on year and increased by 2.0 percent month on month to 1.47 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $587.98 million, up 3.5 percent year on year and down 0.6 percent month on month.

In the January-October period, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 16.42 million mt, up 5.5 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 8.4 percent to $8.91 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 3.87 million mt of scrap from the US, up 6.7 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the Netherlands which supplied 2.23 million mt in the given period, up 25.9 year on year, and the UK which supplied 1.77 million mt of scrap, up 51.7 percent year on year.
