Turkish construction industry turnover down 22.2 percent in Q3

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the third quarter of 2009, the turnover index in Turkey's construction industry (with base year 2005 = 100) decreased by 22.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In Q3 this year, the turnover index in building construction in Turkey fell from 168.1 to 125.5, down 25.4 percent, while the turnover index in civil engineering declined from 172.2 to 142.8, down 17.1 percent, both compared to Q3 2008.

Meanwhile, in the quarter in question, the production index in construction decreased by 18.4 percent year on year.

The production index in building construction in Turkey for the third quarter decreased from 125.2 to 98.9, down 21 percent, while the production index in civil engineering rose from 147 to 137.3, declining by 6.6 percent, both compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
