Turkish motor vehicle output up 42 percent in May

In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 125,190 units, rising by 42 percent year on year and up 1.7 percent month on month, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the first five months of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 594,305 units, up nine percent year on year.
 
In May alone, passenger car output amounted to 76,569 units, increasing by 46 percent, while commercial vehicle output totaled 48,621 units, up 36 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the January-May period, passenger car output totaled 359,190 units, up 13 percent, and commercial vehicle production amounted to 235,115 units, rising by four percent, both compared to the same period of 2015.
 
The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry was 87 percent in May this year, while the rate was 83 percent in the first five months of the year.
