In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 96,574 units, increasing by 13 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 73,832 units, up 17 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the January-May period of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 356,792 units, decreasing by two percent on year-on-year basis.
In the first five months of the current year, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 453,720 units, up 15 percent, while passenger car exports increased by 11 percent to 275,650 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 166,350 small trucks, up 34 percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports increased by 12 percent to $9.74 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $2.85 billion, remaining stable, both on year-on-year basis.
In May of the current year, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 63,915 units, increasing by eight percent year on year, while passenger car imports totaled 54,218 units, up eight percent, year on year. In the January-May period of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 236,361, showing zero growth, while passenger car imports reached 195,181 units, growing by one percent, both compared to the same period of 2015.
