Turkish steel industry to take joint action to resolve problems

Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:12:20 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

The Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB) has outlined the main problems facing the Turkish steel industry as the market contraction in the MENA region which reduces the industry's production and exports, unfair competition from China, the establishment of domestic steel industries in the main export markets with the aim of import substitution, increasing imports arriving in Turkey, the possible threat from Iran, and unfair trade measures.

During a meeting organized by the CIB, Turkish steel industry representatives also discussed significant issues such as the new import regulations in Egypt involving registration of imports which cause Turkish exporters to face long registration procedures, support for consumption of domestic products in Turkey, and legislative arrangements. As a result of the meeting, the industry representatives and the CIB decided to act together to resolve all the problems facing the domestic industry.
