Ukraine issues Jan-Apr 2009 production results

According to the preliminary data, in the first four months of 2009 Ukraine registered a 34 percent decline year on year in its finished steel product output to 8.212 million mt and a 39 percent decrease in its crude steel output to 8.96 million mt.

In January-April, Ukraine saw a 45.1 percent decrease in its steel pipe production to 449,200 metric tons and a 36 percent reduction in its pig iron production to 7,845 million metric tons. On the other hand, the country's production of metallurgical coke went down by 26.8 percent year on year to 5.368 million mt during the first four months of 2009.

In its iron ore segment, in January-April 2009 Ukraine produced 18.616 million metric tons of iron ore and 15.238 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - down 30 and 28 percent respectively compared to the same period last year.
