Ukraine issues Jan-May 2009 production results

According to the preliminary data, in the first five months of 2009 Ukraine registered a 35 percent decline year on year in its finished steel product output to 10.33 million mt and a 39 percent decrease in its crude steel output to 11.311 million mt.

In January-May, Ukraine saw a 45 percent decrease in its steel pipe production to 584,000 metric tons and a 36 percent reduction in its pig iron production to 9.96 million metric tons. On the other hand, the country's production of metallurgical coke went down by 26 percent year on year to 6.863 million mt during the first five months of 2009.

In its iron ore segment, in January-May 2009 Ukraine produced 23.384 million metric tons of iron ore and 19.34 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - down 31 and 28 percent respectively compared to the same period last year.
