Wednesday, 02 March 2016 15:19:46 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

On March 1, Ukraine’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has announced that it has set an export quota of 1.1 million mt for scrap for 2016 compared to 1.2 million mt in 2015.

According to the announcement, Ukraine will be allowed to collect 4.6 million mt of scrap in the current year, up 300,000 mt year on year, deliveries of steel scrap to the local market will total 3.5 million mt, up 400,000 mt year on year.

On the other hand, Ukraine’s steel production in 2016 is expected to be 24.5 million mt, up 1.5 million mt year on year, and down 2.7 million mt compared to 2014.

Representatives of steel mills said that current quotas are harming the Ukrainian steel industry, as mills are facing extreme shortage of scrap supplies, affecting their production.
