Ukraine to step up output in June

According to the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in June 2009 Ukrainian steelmakers plan to produce 2.2 million mt of pig iron - up four percent, 2.55 million mt of crude steel - up 8.7 percent, and 2.35 million mt of finished steel products - up 7.7 percent, all compared to May 2009.

In May 2009, Ukraine's average daily pig iron output increased by six percent month on month to 68,200 mt, while over the first five months it amounted to 66,000 mt. Over the first eight days of June 2009, the Ukrainian steelmakers' average daily pig iron output amounted to 66,500 mt.

According to the Metallurgprom data, as of June 8, 2009, 29 of Ukraine's 41 blast furnaces are operating, as well as 18 of the country's 21 converters, and 15 of its 42 open hearth furnaces.
