Ukraine to step up steel and pig iron outputs in June

According to the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, over the first 11 days of May 2009 Ukrainian steel producers increased their average daily crude steel output by five percent month on month to 75,000 mt, and are expecting to further raise their crude steel output to 2.42 million mt in June compared to 2.14 million mt produced in April.   

Meanwhile, Ukraine's pig iron output in June is expected to reach 2.09 million mt, compared to 1.933 million mt in April. Over the first 11 days of May, Ukrainian producers' average daily output of pig iron increased by 5.3 percent month on month, from 64,300 mt to 67,700 mt.
