Ukrainian steel producer Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) has recommissioned its converter No. 2 after the completion of repair works ahead of schedule within the framework of renovation and modernization of the production facilities at its oxygen-converter shop.

The repairs in question, amounting to a cost of UAH 60 million (about $7.9 million), included the total replacement of the second converter and also of the waste heat boiler.

Ilyich had initially planned to restart its converter No. 2 on August 19, later revising the date to July 19. However, with the repair works being completed well ahead of schedule, the first steel smelting at the repaired converter was performed on June 16.
