A Rio de Janeiro state court reversed a decision issued this week that prevented ThyssenKrupp-owned slab producer Companhia Siderurgica do Atlantico (CSA) from receiving an operating license from a state environment authority, a document said on Friday.
Judge Natascha Dazzi concluded there were no irregularities in CSA’s environmental licensing process, reverting an injunction filed by state prosecutors, who are expected to appeal the new decision.
Earlier this week, the same judge ruled that Ceca, a state environment authority, shouldn’t issue an operating license to CSA until the injunction filed by public prosecutors was properly analyzed.
The prosecutors’ injunction demanded new analysis about the impact of the mill’s activities on the environment, health, security and welfare of Santa Cruz and neighboring populations.
Meanwhile, CSA also filed new documents within the process. After looking at CSA’s arguments and documents, the judge said the steelmaker complied with conditioning clauses to the issuing of the operating license.
A Rio de Janeiro state authority recommended TetraTech to perform an audit at CSA, whose conclusions attested the slab producer’s capacity to receive the license.
The license should now be issued by a state environment authority.
