Ural Steel, the steel producing subsidiary of Russian iron ore and steel producer Metalloinvest Holding (Metalloinvest), has announced the receipt of an order from Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa), a subsidiary of Russian pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK), for the supply of 12,000 mt of steel strips of the new SAWL415IF grade.

The production of strips of the new SAWL415IF grade, possessing the strict technical requirements demanded by Vyksa, has became possible due to Ural Steel's newly upgraded equipment at its electric smelting workshop and its flat rolling shop. The test batch of sheets passed all the customer's qualification tests.

Accordingly, the order for 12,000 mt of strips, of which 2,660 mt have been already delivered, will be used by Vyksa for the production of electric-welded pipes of 530 mm in diameter, designed for the construction of the Djubga-Lazarevskoye-Sochi submarine gas pipeline. The construction of the pipeline is carried out within the scope of preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held at the southern Russian city of Sochi, and will secure a stable and regular gas supply to the resort area of the Caucasian coast of the Black Sea, and will improve the gas supply to Sochi.
