US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer testified before the US Senate Committee on Finance on Tuesday, March 12, about the negotiations regarding a possible trade deal between China and the US. “Our hope is that we are in the final weeks of having an agreement,” Lightthizer stated.
However, the US Trade Representative said that he would not commit to a specific time frame and added that it will be up to President Trump or the Chinese side to decide when “the time is up”, going on to say that there are still major issues which have to be resolved.
After a phone call with Liu He, Chinese Vice Premier on Monday evening, Lighthizer said that he would have another phone call with Liu on Wednesday, March 13, stating that parties will have results before too long, either good or bad.
In late February, the US delayed a tariff increase on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods, awaiting a possible trade deal between the countries.
