US CRC imports up 3.5 percent in August

According to preliminary census data released this week by the US Department of Commerce, the US imported 188,084 mt of cold rolled coil (CRC) in August, a 3.5 percent increase from July and an 8.7 percent increase from August 2015.
 
The top sources for imported CRC in August were Vietnam, with 56,701 mt (up 82 percent month-on-month and up significantly from the 21.6 mt imported in August 2015); Canada, with 33,732 mt (up 28 percent month-on-month and up 13 percent year-on-year); and Mexico, with 19,036 mt (down 0.7 percent month-on-month but up 44.4 percent year-on-year).
